LOYALTY TO GOD OR THE WORLD

Have you noticed that when we move homes or change location, we often go through a slow transition of loyalties to our new home or location? Do you know the feeling you have when two people you like have argued and you are not sure which person you should support? These are situations of divided loyalties. Sometimes, the most miserable people in the world are not the ones who have no room for God in their lives. Yes, such people may be unhappy and unfulfilled for not having God in their lives, however, there is probably no worse and miserable spot to be in than attempting to be both a follower of God and the world. This is how scripture describes such persons: “They worshiped the Lord, but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought” “So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth” The old saying “You can watch a thief but not a liar” is so true. He who lives with a divided loyalty, like a lair, is a miserable soul. You sometimes evidently loved both of God and the world equally so you can't make a real choice. You may be forced to have divided loyalty just like many of us do in both simple and complex issues of our lives. Today, more damage is done to our religious witness through divided loyalty than by any other means. So, the simple question that I pose to you is: Where is your loyalty? Could it be said of you that you “worship the God but also serve your own gods”? Speaking about divided loyalty, the Prophet Isaiah cautioned “These people come near to me with their mouth and honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men. Stay alive. COVID-19 is still around. Follow the protocols.πŸŒΊπŸŒ΅πŸ€πŸŒΉ☘πŸŒ²πŸŒΏπŸ„πŸ˜ƒπŸŒ΄πŸŒ³πŸ₯€πŸŒ±πŸŽ‹By Divine Kpetigo
